Tata Communications has signed agreements with partner airlines - Lufthansa & Air France KLM to offset business travel related Scope 3 emissions through purchase of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This makes Tata Communications the first corporate in India to enter into such an agreement and contribute to the purchase of SAF, to promote cleaner fuel in the aviation sector and reduce the impact on climate change.

To address the increasing disaster risk through the CSR activities and promote risk informed sustainable development; TSG partnered with Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) to conduct a three-day workshop on ‘Mainstreaming DRR into CSR’ from 18th-20th January 2023. The webinar focused on sensitization about climate change and its impacts on increasing severity followed by showcasing of the intensity of disasters in the last few decades.

The Tata group established the "Tata Assam Flood Disaster Response Program' to undertake the relief work. A host of Tata companies led by APPL, including IHCL, Tata Communications, Tata Steel, Tata Capital, Tata Projects and Titan concentrated their efforts in one of the worst affected districts of Cachar which has inhospitable terrain and borders Bangladesh. Together with the district administration, Assam Rifles and Tata volunteers, the program reached out to the most inaccessible areas and touched the lives of over 6,000 individuals.

Tata group airlines ink MoU with CSIR-IIP for sustainable aviation
 
Reinforcing the Tata group's commitment towards Net-zero, Tata group airlines – Air India, AirAsia India and Vistara (Tata SIA Airlines), on 21st September 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Institute of Petroleum to collaborate and work together on the research, development, and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). The focus of the MoU is to explore Single Reactor HEFA (fuels) Technology for Drop-in liquid Sustainable Aviation and Automotive Fuel (DILSAAF).

New classrooms and lab complex handed over to authorities as a part of the Tata Kerala Floods Response Program
 
As a part of the Tata Kerala Floods Response Program, the Tata group handed over newly built classrooms and a laboratory complex, developed for the Government Higher Secondary School, Vellathooval, Idduki District, Kerala. The school had sustained significant damage from landslides during the 2018 Kerala floods. The project was completed in November 2021 at an estimated cost of INR 1.1 Crore and the school complex was inaugurated on December 9, 2021 in the presence of Mr. Siddharth Sharma, Group CSO, Tata Sons.

As a part of the Tata Kerala Floods Response Program, the Tata group handed over newly built classrooms and a laboratory complex, developed for the Government Higher Secondary School, Vellathooval, Idduki District, Kerala. Following the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, Tata group set up a Nepal Earthquake Response Programme. As part of the programme, a reconstructed building, which had been badly damaged earlier during the earthquake, was handed over to Shree Janajyoti Basic School in Pani Chaur, Chautara Sangachowkgadi Municipality-11, Sindhupalchowk, Nepal on 17 November, 2021.

The Energy Transitions Commission (ETC), a coalition of more than 45 leaders from global energy producers, energy industries, financial institutions and environmental advocates released two new reports analysing the feasibility of achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy by 2050 and the actions required in the next decade to put this target within reach. The Energy Transitions Commission (ETC), a coalition of more than 45 leaders from global energy producers, energy industries, financial institutions and environmental advocates released two new reports analysing the feasibility of achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy by 2050 and the actions required in the next decade to put this target within reach. Clean electrification will be at the heart of this transformation enabled by the rapidly falling costs of renewable energy, with a complementary role for clean hydrogen technology in sectors that are difficult to electrify.

Tata Steel Europe has launched plans for a project to capture CO2 from its blast furnaces in IJmuiden, Netherlands, and transport it for storage in empty gas fields under the North Sea. The project would lead to a 30% reduction of CO2 from the steelmaking site. This project is part of Tata Steel Europe’s broader sustainability strategy to be CO2 neutral by 2050. The capture and storage of CO2 could make a significant contribution to this in a relatively short timeframe.

At the India CEO Forum on Climate Change held on 5th November 2020 and chaired by Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indian industry leaders delivered statements to reinforce their commitment to combating climate change and shared their vision for climate action in the post-2020 period. The Tata group also became a signatory to the 'Declaration of the Private Sector on Climate Change' which was released during the high-level virtual event.

Conducted amid the pandemic, the 14th edition of the Tata Volunteering Week was quite unique. The programme, which normally sees a lot of group activities and large-scale events had to be pivoted to adjust to the requirements posed by COVID-19. Therefore, we asked our volunteers to “Work from Heart” while being at home – a play on “WFH” which is among one of the most used acronyms over the past six months! 35 companies of the Tata group conducted more than 2,500 volunteering activities across 75+ cities, to support 250+ partners.
